Additional Music Programs

The Suzuki Music School Touring Ensemble, Inc.

The Suzuki Music School Touring Ensemble, Inc. (TSMSTE) became a separate non-profit community-based organization in 2006 and a formal partner with The Howard County Public School System in 2007. TSMSTE is open to all qualified music students and musicians who successfully pass the audition. With a continuing commitment to sharing our musical talents with the community, we have given numerous concerts in retirement and nursing homes, and participated in many significant Howard County events, most recently Columbia’s Big 50th Birthday Celebration at Lakefront stage, Howard Community College, the Mall in Columbia, Wilde Lake Village Center [including its 40th birthday celebration as Columbia’s oldest village]. Over the years, the touring ensemble presented showcase concerts for the Howard County Sesquicentennial Celebration, The Columbia Festival of the Arts (Lakefest), Columbia Birthday Celebrations, and The Six Flags Best of Maryland Festival. We have also given concerts at the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Post Office Pavilion in Washington, DC. We were also selected to be included in a nationally televised PBS Children’s Education Special “Preschool Power” which aired locally on Maryland Public Television. We have also been invited to perform at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center through “Perform America.” Our vocal, piano and instrumental ensembles presented a concert at the Suzuki Music School’s Arts Advocacy event at Lakefront.

College Preparatory Certificate

The Suzuki Music School of Maryland, Inc. (SMSMD) now offers a National Certificate Program which is open to serious and dedicated music students who qualify (by Audition). Once approved, the requirements will include that the student take a one-hour Private Lesson (minimum) in the chosen instrument or voice weekly during each of the Semesters throughout the year through completion of the Program, plus classes in Music Theory, Ear Training, Sight Singing/Solfeggio, and Music History. The student will also demonstrate skills in Sight Reading and Technique, and regularly participate in our Ensemble Program. Also, the student will play a Jury (with small fee each time) in front of faculty members and the school’s Director at the end of the Fall and Spring Semesters which will include technique (scales, arpeggios, etc.), an etude, repertoire, and sight reading. The student will also give a Graduation Recital as part of the Certificate requirements. The awarding of our College Preparatory Certificate acknowledges that the student has fulfilled the college entrance requirements stated by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and demonstrated the highest level of Performance and Basic Musicianship.
